![]() Firewood is available for sale at the campground. The campground also has drinking water, flush toilets, hot showers ($), a parking area and picnic area. Each campsite has a paved parking spur, table, food storage locker, fire ring and grate. There are no views of Fallen Leaf Lake or nearby Taylor Creek, but they are a short walk from the campground. The campground is approximately 1/2 mile from Fallen Leaf Lake and just a few miles from Lake Tahoe. It has 206 campsites for tents, trailers and RVs. There are also 6 yurts that have electricity, a heater, lights and comfy mattresses. The park rangers did not act on the complaints as they should have.Fallen Leaf Campground is nestled among towering native pine trees in a peaceful alpine canyon close to Fallen Leaf Lake. She called the Sheriff immediately and had them removed from the grounds since they were suppose to stay another night. At check out Sunday I requested the park manager and complained. They wanted something in writing so another camper was walking around and got 10 signatures from other campers to have the old drunks removed. The rangers did not handle the complaints well. A company truck was there with the name Great Basin steak & seafood 77 I wouldn't recommend after the way these "adults" acted and were so disrespectful towards the other campers. We had 2 children 4 and 5yrs with us or else we would have started a riot with these people. Another camper also asked them to keep it down only in return to have them scream "Time to Party"!! A woman or should I say skank was talking very loudly about sex when there was children around. The ranger went out and told them 2x to keep it down. Had some very RUDE, loud and drunk people next to us that partied all night with loud music. The yurts have cracks and holes so the spiders will be visiting you guaranteed. Recently rented a yurt because no tent sites were available and it was INFESTED with spiders! You will be much safer in a tent. Had a tent site here September 2012 and was a great experience. Fortunately, they let it go and the molasses paced check-in process for those behind me could continue. The inability to see how fruitless that inquiry was just astounded me. Amazingly, they wanted to get the names of everyone who was staying at each site - while there was a line of cars 8 deep behind me. The folks at the check-in station were nice but weren't terribly coordinated, and gave different directions for different members of our party who arrived later. I checked in for 4 sites, and it took 3 people and over 15 minutes to do so. ![]() The only other thing I will mention is that the check-in process was tremendously confusing and cumbersome. Did I mention the bathrooms? There are older bathrooms with toilet stalls and sinks, but there are also FANTASTIC new shower/bathrooms as well! Great amenity!! The only downside is that the camp site is not immediately adjacent to the north side of the lake, which wouldn't be a big deal, except that there are very limited ways of hauling your gear (rafts, paddle boards, chairs, food) to the lake side. There is also tremendous hiking opportunities. Did I also mention that the campground is dog friendly? I also highly recommend taking the drive to the southern part of Fallen Leaf Lake, where there is a small chalet with good food, a small but quaint beach, and kayaks/paddle boards for rent. We spent nearly all of our time at Fallen Leaf Lake - and you wouldn't know that it was so hectic out there in the real world - we truly were in a world of our own. even the local folks who worked at the businesses noted that the amount of visitors was unprecedented). The other tremendous advantage to note is that the camp site is located within a 10 minute drive of anything you need in South Lake Tahoe but far enough away from the manic pace of Lake Tahoe during the July 4th week (and believe me, it was MANIC. The access roadwas are narrow - which means that they strictly enforce the "park only in the designated areas" rule at all times, but it also means that the kids can ride circles around the camp loop without fear of a speeding vehicle (too narrow for speeding). From a family-friendly scenic get-away perscpective - we were not disappointed! The campground was relatively spacious (it helped that we booked 4 consecutive sites together for our large group), and a good combination of forested/sunny locations at the tent sites. It was orginally recommended to me by a colleague, over a decade ago, and we finally got to go. For our annual July 4th Camping Trip, we chose to go to Fallen Leaf Lake in South Lake Tahoe.
